Murmuration #1: Located Sound Residency

As part of my ongoing professional development in located sound and sound art, I took part in the first murmuration #1 located sound residency in 2018. The residency took place in a remote retreat in Glenshee, Scotland, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park.

Facilitated by leading located sound specialists Jez Riley-French and Chris Watson, the week brought together an international group of artists and field recordists. We explored the immersive landscape and recorded located sound, acoustic ecology, and subtle environmental textures in many forms.

During the residency, I experimented with my newly acquired Zoom H5 recorder, along with hydrophones and contact microphones handmade by Jez Riley-French. This hands-on experience significantly expanded my technical knowledge and creative confidence in field recording.

The residency strengthened my commitment to evolving my practice and developing new sculptural sound installations that integrate environmental sound, resonance, and material form.
