Mokuhanga (Japanese Woodblock Printmaking)

Mokuhanga is a traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique with a strong connection to natural materials, including wood, water-based pigment, and handmade paper. I create each print by hand using the sōsaku-hanga process, which involves developing a theme and design, carving woodblocks, and printing with a handheld baren on damp paper. This method allows me to build subtle, transparent layers of colour, achieve soft blends (bokashi), and produce prints with a distinct tactile quality.
