Description

Still Crimson is a handmade mokuhanga print created in my studio in Winchester. The abstract work captures the experience of walking along the River Itchen in winter. The landscape is cold and wet, with still grey air surrounding me. The fleeting colour of crimson in the bushes is a quiet reminder of life. The movement in the water-based pigment and brush strokes reflects memories of the River seeking space and solitude.

The print was created using one and a half carved woodblocks, employing reduction printing mid-process to achieve a distinct depth of tone and colour.
