Description

Rooted in the alchemical framework in Edward Edinger’s reading of Jung, this work explores a pivotal alchemical moment: the grey wolf devouring the golden band, the symbolic “king”, signifying the dissolution of a fixed ego and the necessary breakdown of form before transformation can occur.

These elements are rendered as strong geometric symbolic forms whose placement creates both harmony and tension. A veil of light indigo descends across the upper portion of the print, invoking the moon and the onset of nigh, the traditional domain of solutio, where structures soften, boundaries blur, and psychic material enters a fluid state.

This print is a handmade original created in my Winchester studio. It was produced using three carved woodblocks and traditional Mokuhanga methods. Light, layered impressions of grey over yellow establish a soft bokashi gradation and a gently modulated texture across the foreground.
