Description
An original handmade print, created in my studio in Winchester. Mercurial Fountain examines the alchemical union of opposite, the joining of sun and moon, ego and unconscious. The fountain is marked by a spontaneous brushstroke that cuts through the sun. The descending motion of the fountain is developed through a carefully controlled bokashi gradation, allowing the form to carry the visual weight of flowing water as it moves downward. Opposite the sun, the moon appears as a more subtle presence: its surface reveals the natural gradient of the woodgrain, referred to in Mokuhanga as Mokume-zuri, a specific printing technique that intentionally reveal or emphasize the natural woodgrain of the block.
